The term Skyrise greenery describes rooftop gardens and planting on parts of the building such as roof decks, podium gardens, facade greenery, and balcony plantings.[1]
It helps to beautify the environment and especially enhances the 'City in a Garden' image employed by Singapore, the main city practicing Skyrise Greenery. Air quality indoors are improved by the plants and indoor living improves the spirit by providing an indefinable quality. The surroundings' air temperature can be reduced by 4 degrees Celsius (7 °F) by rooftop gardens, while surface temperature can be reduced by 31 degrees Celsius (56 °F). Urban heat island effect in cities like Tokyo and Chicago can be fought against using rooftop gardens.
Rooftop gardens provide amenity space for users on underutilized space, and add identity and enhance the appearance of a building. This increases the value of a property.
